Medicare Part D Drug Program (www.medicare.gov) - Open to all age 65 or older and some younger individuals with disabilities
- Open enrollment is typically from November 15th to December 31st of each year. However, recipients in a long-term care facility have the choice to change plans every month if necessary.
- Premiums can be deducted from social security checks if desired
- Patients who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid (dual eligible patients) have no premium or deductible and nominal co pays from $1 to $3.
- Patients with incomes less than $12,600 and limited assets have no premium or deductible and co pays from $2 to $5
- Catastrophic Drug Coverage begins when a beneficiary pays more than $3,600 out of pocket. With this coverage, the beneficiary pays 5% co-insurance or $2 per generic or $5 per brand name.
